How do I arrange a cancer care consultation?
Call Blakehurst Vet on (02) 9547 2750 or book an appointment online. For chemotherapy enquiries, ask about a consultation with Dr Hamish. If your pet has already had tests elsewhere, let our team know when booking so we can advise which records would be helpful.
Will chemotherapy make my pet feel unwell?
Many pets tolerate chemotherapy well, but side effects can include reduced appetite, vomiting, diarrhoea and tiredness. Some medicines also lower white blood cell counts, increasing infection risk. Serious complications can occur. We’ll discuss the risks of your pet’s treatment, monitor their response and explain when to contact us.
Can all cancer treatment happen at Blakehurst Vet?
Some investigations and treatments can take place at our clinic, including chemotherapy for suitable patients. Others require specialist facilities or expertise. If referral would benefit your pet, we’ll explain why and discuss how our team can remain involved in their care.
Can you help if we decide against chemotherapy?
Yes. Our team can still help manage your pet’s symptoms and support their comfort. This may include pain relief, medication for nausea, nutritional advice and palliative care. We’ll also help you assess their quality of life and talk through decisions as their needs change.
