Veterinary diagnostics & imaging
in Blakehurst
With pathology, X-ray and ultrasound available at Blakehurst Vet, we can investigate many health problems on site and use the results to guide the next steps in your pet’s care.

Investigating pet health
At closer look at
your pet's health
A veterinary examination is often the first step in understanding why your pet is unwell. Sometimes, however, we need more information before we can determine what is happening.
Depending on your pet’s symptoms, medical history and examination findings, your veterinarian may recommend pathology testing, X-rays or ultrasound.
Having these diagnostic services available at Blakehurst Vet means many investigations can be carried out on site rather than sending your pet elsewhere. Your veterinarian can then consider the results together with what they have seen during the examination and what you have noticed at home.
Diagnostic testing may also be useful when monitoring an existing health problem or investigating changes in an older pet. You can read more about how we care for older patients on our Senior Pet Care page.
Our diagnostics services
Diagnostic services
we offer
From in-house pathology and pharmacy to X-ray and ultrasound, our on-site services help us investigate illness, monitor ongoing conditions and make informed decisions about your pet’s care.
In-house pathology
Our in-house laboratory allows us to perform a range of blood tests at the clinic, giving our veterinarians useful information when investigating illness or monitoring an existing condition.
X-ray
X-rays allow us to look at structures inside the body that cannot be assessed fully during a physical examination. They may be recommended when investigating problems involving the bones, joints, chest or abdomen.
Ultrasound
Ultrasound is available on site when your veterinarian needs a more detailed view of internal organs and soft tissues. Whether ultrasound is appropriate depends on what we are investigating in your individual pet.
In-house pharmacy
If your pet needs medication following their examination or diagnostic testing, our in-house pharmacy means many commonly prescribed veterinary medications can be dispensed directly from the clinic.
Your pet's results
Turning results
into the next step
A test result rarely tells the whole story on its own.
Your veterinarian interprets diagnostic results alongside your pet’s symptoms, physical examination, medical history and any changes you have noticed at home. That context helps us decide whether the findings explain what is happening or whether we need to investigate further.
Once the results are available, we will explain what we have found and what it means for your pet. Depending on the situation, the next step may be treatment, medication, monitoring, another examination or further investigation.
For pets with ongoing medical conditions, repeat diagnostic testing can also help us monitor changes over time and assess how they are responding to treatment.

What diagnostic services are available at Blakehurst Vet?
We have on-site pathology, X-ray and ultrasound available at Blakehurst Vet. Your veterinarian will recommend diagnostic testing only when it is useful for investigating or monitoring your pet’s health.
Why might my pet need diagnostic testing?
Diagnostic tests can give us information that cannot always be obtained from a physical examination alone. They may be recommended to investigate symptoms, assess a new health problem or monitor an existing condition.
Can you do pathology testing at the clinic?
Yes. Blakehurst Vet has an in-house laboratory that allows us to perform pathology testing at the clinic.
Do you have X-ray facilities at Blakehurst Vet?
Yes. X-rays are available at the clinic and may be recommended when your veterinarian needs to investigate areas such as the bones, joints, chest or abdomen.
Is ultrasound available at Blakehurst Vet?
Yes. Ultrasound is available on site when your veterinarian considers it appropriate for your pet. It can provide useful information about internal organs and soft tissues.
Will my pet need sedation for an X-ray?
Not every pet needs sedation. Whether it is required depends on your pet, the part of the body being examined and the images we need to obtain. Your vet will discuss this with you if sedation is recommended.
